The human mind naturally seeks to categorize and organize in order to navigate complex issues. In the Uncertain Light of Single Certain Truth, a site-specific installation created for the 2017 Istanbul Off-Site Project of the Sharjah Biennale, was conceived during a period when many intellectuals were leaving Turkey in response to growing political pressure. In response to this weighty atmosphere, the artist worked with cardboard boxes as a metaphor for the burden of such tensions. These boxes, made of tulle and held together by metal wire, are transparent and light, offering a subtle contrast to the heaviness they represent.
Epiphanies in life often emerge through a shift in perspective. What if lightness can arise simply by looking at things differently?
